A Job Well Done's aim was to research into how social enterprises support disabled employees and learners and to explore the extent of the interface between social enterprises and the learning and skills sector.
What are we aiming to achieve?
How will we do this work?
Our methodology involved:
- a call for information to social enterprises, development agencies and learning providers
- a series of telephone interviews and exploratory visits to social enterprises
- gathering feedback on our initial findings during a series of workshops held as part of the Learning and Skills Council ‘Enterprise and Employment’ conferences in London, Birmingham and York in November and December 2009
Who is this work for?
The project aimed to inform and support learning providers, social enterprises, policy makers and development agencies as well as disabled people and people who support them.
What is (or will be) the impact of this work?
Following our research a guide was published that described:
- the characteristics of social enterprises providing support for disabled people making a transition from learning to work
- the interface between social enterprises and learning providers
- how learning providers can draw upon on the potential of social enterprises to support their disabled learners into employment
- recommendations for policy makers that would help social enterprises to extend their support for disabled people beyond the limits of their current provision
