"Media literacy is literacy for the 21st century - we all need the essential life skills of being able to manage our media if we want to be effective in the workplace and in society" (Robin Blake - Ofcom, NIACE Media Literacy film, December 2008)
Media Literacy
Media literacy describes the skills a person needs to access, analyse, evaluate and create messages in a wide variety of forms. The promotion of media literacy is an established part of NIACE's work and has been a major theme of Adult Learners Week since 2005, with publications and events funded by Ofcom. As technologies which were once quite separate converge - such as television and Internet - new learning challenges are set. NIACE is well-known for supporting the promotion of media literacy in its broadest sense, encompassing understanding and knowledge as well as skills and competences.
