Older Man painting Older Adults

NIACE influences policy and practice and studies older people's participation in learning, as well as the services which support it. We also celebrate and promote wider learning opportunities for older people.

Our work

NIACE:

  • promotes and actively creates wider learning opportunities for older people, especially for those not normally involved;
  • raises awareness of the importance of learning in maintaining and improving the quality of life, including mental health and well being in later life;
  • represents the interests of older learners to national and local Government and is a member of the UK Advisory Forum on Ageing;
  • encourages partnerships between education providers, planners and funders, institutions, local authorities, schools and voluntary organizations; and
  • promotes good practice in education and training for older people, recognising the needs of carers and support workers.

NIACE provides:

  • A regular Older & Bolder News Roundup, including information about the latest publications, events and news relevant to older adults and providers.
  • An Older & Bolder e-bulletin, keeping readers updated with what is happening at NIACE.

If you would like to join either of these email groups please contact Lois Gladdish, Information Officer, lois.gladdish@niace.org.uk

NIACE also awards a Senior Learner of the Year in England, as part of Adult Learners Week.

The older workforce

NIACE researches the workings of the older workforce, studying who works and why, how employers manage older workers, and the role of learning in assisting this.
