NIACE delivers a number of training programmes and online sessions that explore online learning, delivered through the NIACE Moodle learning platform and other online tools. The Online Course Delivery project aims to address the need for the development of online learning within adult and community learning and the wider post-16 education sector. The role that social networking and ‘Web2.0' technologies might contribute to adult learning is very important for NIACE. These tools have the potential to give learners an authentic ‘voice' in and increase the quality of their learning experience.
Online learning
Online learning helps people who are unable to attend face-to-face courses, offering them a whole range of exciting new ways to learn. It can be as simple as using an online forum for discussion or as innovative as using a ‘virtual world' like Second Life.
In addition, developing online services contributes to NIACE's developmental priorities for the professional development of the workforce and the continuous development of staff in lifelong learning. Equally, there is a continued demand from adult learning organisations to expand knowledge about the use of online learning and the skills needed for it within teaching and learning.
