Health and FamiliesThe Health and Family Learning project (PoHeFa) is a project funded by the EU Second programme of community action in the field of health (2008-2013), which focuses on the aim to improve people's health security, promote health and generate and disseminate health information and knowledge. Population DebateA growing, ageing and more diverse population has been identified as one of the key factors influencing the long term development of the economy, sustainability and wellbeing in the South West region. The South West Regional Development Agency and the Regional Employment and Skills Partnership, in association with the Regional Age Management Standing Group, has designed a 'horizon scanning' exercise to stimulate and capture thinking about how, in the context of a significantly ageing population, the South West Region can manage paid and unpaid employment and active ageing. |

Adult Learners' Week South WestAdult Learners' Week (the third week in May) is the UK's largest celebration of learning. It engages thousands of people in a diverse range of activities each year, inspiring them to get back into learning. |

Lifelong Learning and Rural Communities: What is the Impact of Funding Cuts for Rural Learners?NIACE have been commissioned to write a brief report identifying some of the potential issues faced by rural communities as a result of recently announced cuts to funding for adult learning. This report will address the various aspects of the relationship between learning opportunities for adults, and living in rural communities. Also, the paper will consider some of the challenges that exist when infrastructures are deconstructed and re-developed, and explore the role of the Voluntary and Community Sector in delivering and maintaining opportunities for learning in rural communities. |

The Regional Achievement Programme for LLNThis project has now finished. Details about the project can be found below. The Regional Achievement Programme, co-ordinated through NIACE, has supported the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and other agencies, primarily local Learning and Skills Councils in their work by engaging with providers and policy makers and other stakeholders, including learners, to support regions to enhance Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) provision and policy implementation. |

MHFA in work-based learningThis project has now finished. We've left it here for reference. The project is funding staff from Work-based Learning (WBL) providers in the South West to undertake Mental Health First Aid Instructor training. On completion of the training these staff will deliver the 2 day MHFA training to staff, learners and employers involved in their provision. In this way mental health awareness will be cascaded and embedded within the organisation. |

Efficiency Savings and Shared ServicesThe project aims to offer Adult and Community Learning, Third Sector and Not for Profit providers a greater awareness of different models and approaches to efficiency savings and shared services. Case studies, pen pictures and other appropriate resources will be developed following an on-line survey and action research by providers. |
