NIACE's mission is to engage more and different adults in better quality learning of all kinds. However, we do have a particular interest in those who have, for a range of reasons, engaged least in learning.

Widening Particpation for whom?

For adults and young people who have, for various reasons, had fewer chances in life and are least likely to be engaged in any form of learning. This could be because of poor skills, mental health issues, a learning difficulty or disability. It could be because of being stuck in a short term job with no training prospects or not having a job at all. It could be about being an offender or ex-offender, being homeless or having spent time in the care of the local authority. It could be about being poor, living in a rural area without a car or having childcare difficulties. Widening Participation is about ensuring everyone can access learning and reap the benefits to health and well being, job prospects, and to confidence.
