Dlit 2.0

As new technologies increasingly influence and impact on the daily life of all European citizens, Digital Literacy is increasingly important to ensure social cohesion, active citizenship and personal fulfillment. Those who do not have access and/ or the skills needed to use the internet effectively are disadvantaged in many ways, including access to learning.

What are we aiming to achieve?

Our aim in this project is to apply a learner centric model to develop and deliver training programmes for staff in non- and informal learning settings across the EU, such as Public Libraries, social housing organisations, community and care centres so they can enable socially disadvantaged learners to develop the skills and knowledge they need to make full and safe use of the World Wide Web, improve their motivation to learn and empower them to participate fully in the digital society.

How will we do this work?

NIACE is working in partnership with seven other European organisations to develop and deliver the DLit 2.0 project http://www.digital-literacy2020.eu/content/sections/index.cfm Funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Stiftung Digitale Chancen, < http://www.digitale-chancen.de/>, DLit 2.0  analyses best practices from different European countries to develop one comprehensive and innovative strategy to ensure that citizens across Europe can access lifelong learning and acquire "New Skills for New Jobs", through innovative non-formal learning approaches and collaboration models.

Using the developed strategy, the partnership will develop learner and trainer curricula and deliver them to learners in a range of informal learning settings. Ongoing evaluation will inform the development of the programme, ensuring it meets the needs of learners, trainers and delivery organisations.
