ESOL and the Voluntary Sector in Wales

1 April 2008 - 31 March 2009

What is the project?

NIACE Dysgu Cymru has been commissioned by the Department of Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) of the Welsh Assembly Government to undertake a research project on ESOL and the voluntary sector in Wales. The project examines the key barriers faced by learners accessing ESOL, and the adult sector in providing appropriate ESOL. It will highlight good practice and make recommendations for DCELLS.

In particular the project will identify innovative and effective ways used by the voluntary sector to reach most marginalised and excluded individuals and groups (accessing ESOL).

How will we do this?

The project will engage with stakeholders through our networks, particularly the RAMOD network (a network of practitioners supporting black and minority ethnic learners) and hold consultation events across Wales.

The project will also conduct case study visits with individual providers and groups of learners.

What is the timescale?

Consultation events and case study visits will be completed by the end of January 2009. Report to DCELLS by the end of March 2009.
