Innovative Practice in Numeracy Learning

using a calculator

In 2010/11 NIACE undertook research into innovative numeracy provision and brought 40 organisations together to find out about approaches used, discuss and share practice . On behalf of the Skills Funding Agency, we produced a free downloadable report on the findings of the project, including case studies of some of the Skills Funding Agency’s top 20 numeracy providers.

What are we aiming to achieve?

Research innovative and effective practice in numeracy teaching and learning and disseminate the findings.

How will we do this work?

On behalf of the Skills Funding Agency, NIACE is gathering data on innovative delivery models for numeracy practice in order to produce a free downloadable resource to improve the quality of numeracy learning.  If your provision includes numeracy learning and is achieving good results we would like to hear from you.  We are also interested in your views on the success factors that underpin good numeracy provision.

If you are willing to participate, we would be very grateful if you could answer the questions below as fully as possible.  We will be following up a selection of respondents for a short telephone interview and you will also be invited to attend a seminar in early 2012.  The aim of this event will be to bring together providers to share their experiences of numeracy teaching and learning.

Please reply to numeracylearning@niace.org.uk

Who is this work for?

The work is being carried out on behalf of the Skills Funding Agency and the findings will be useful to all learning providers delivering, or intending to deliver numeracy.

When will we do this work?

This work is currently underway.

What is coming next?

NIACE will hold a seminar for providers in early 2012 and produce a report on our findings

What have we accomplished to date?

In addition to this project, NIACE has completed a range of work on numeracy, the details of which can be found at http://www.niace.org.uk/current-work/area/numeracy

What is (or will be) the impact of this work?

Numeracy learning providers will find ways of improving their own practice based on the lessons learned from this project.
