Our provision online

NIACE delivered a number of training programmes and online sessions exploring online learning through its Moodle learning platform and other online tools. The Online Course Delivery project aimed to address the need for development of online learning within adult and community learning and the wider post-16 education sector. The role that social networking and 'Web2.0' technologies contribute to adult learning is very important for NIACE. These tools have the potential to give learners an authentic 'voice' in and increase the quality of their learning experience.

What are we aiming to achieve?

Our online projects aimed to support Adult Learning Providers to develop and deliver their own online provision.

How will we do this work?

NIACE delivered a number of training programmes and online sessions that explored online learning through the NIACE Moodle learning platform, virtual classrooms and other online tools. Our current Online Course Delivery programme is available on the NIACE website.  Our course offer aimed to address the need for the development of online learning across the post-16 education sector and within informal adult learning. The role that social networking and 'Web2.0' technologies might contribute to adult learning is very important for NIACE. These tools have the potential to give learners an authentic 'voice' in and increase the quality of their learning experience.

In addition NIACE developed and provided a number of self study online training programmes: E-Guides Online, Learning with Technologies for those working in Informal Adult Learning situations, the Staff Development E-Learning Centre, and a publication Online Learning Matters.

Who is this work for?

Our course offer is relevant to any practitioner or manager, working in the post-16 education sector or informal adult learning situations, who is interested in the use of technologies and tools that can be utilised within the classroom and in order to offer online or blended learning opportunities.

What is coming next?

For our latest course offer see the current Online Course Delivery programme which is available on the NIACE website

What have we accomplished to date?

We developed a wide range of courses to meet the needs of staff working within educational settings. The courses and workshops were designed to help staff to build their confidence and ability to use technologies within their teaching. For our current offer see the Online Course Delivery programme and for short online workshops that we have previously run, visit the NIACE Moode.

Below are a selection of comments from participants on some of our past courses and workshops:

"I loved the variety and scope of the materials used. It really alerted me to the possibilities of technology available."

"Absolutely brilliant, we need more courses like this, particularly for smaller training providers. We are a company of 10, we do not have access to ICT training and technicians, we have to pay someone else to do this or struggle ourselves. I want to have the ability to set up online learning for the company and not only save valuable cash resources but have a better and stronger understanding of what we can do to support our learners using ICT resources."

"The course was very well presented and easy to follow. The video tutorials were particularly helpful."

"It's great the online workshops are recorded as I would like to review the sessions as they were packed with good things."

What have we learnt from this work?

Through the variety of training programmes that NIACE delivered through its Moodle and virtual classrooms, we learnt there is still a real need for technology related continual professional development courses, that are delivered in as flexible a way as possible.

What is (or will be) the impact of this work?

We raised awareness of online methodologies, benefits and potential issues to participants of our online courses.  We helped learning providers to realise new and exciting ways of learning, and explore the potential to widen access to learning and methods of delivering learning efficiently.
