The E-Guides Sharing and Sharpening Award 2011

E-Guides Sharing and Sharpening

NIACE launched the E-Guides training programme in Autumn 2003 and since then has trained over 3000 E-Guides across the country. These adult educators then agreed to cascade their skills in e-learning to their colleagues. We believe that the programme has reached over 30,000 teachers of adults in local authorities, third sector providers, work based learning and in prisons.

About the Award
The E-Guide Sharing and Sharpening Award recognises the achievements of E-Guides who have:

  • made an outstanding positive impact on their organisations through sharing their own knowledge
  • demonstrated a commitment to continue to sharpen their e-learning skills through formal and informal continuous professional development.

Nominations should come from a colleague or manager and be submitted to NIACE by 17.00 on Friday 23 September 2011. The successful nominee will be presented with a certificate and a cash prize at the NIACE conference in London on 4 November 2011. Further details about the award and the nomination form can be downloaded below.

What are we aiming to achieve?

We hope this award will celebrate the skill and commitment of trained E-guides who continue to support their colleagues in developing their e-skills in teaching.

How will we do this work?

The competition is open to all trained E-Guides (including Advanced E-Guides).

Who is this work for?

The work will help to make sure that staff continue to share and sharpen their e-learning skills so that we can all contribute to improved learning experiences for adults.

What is coming next?

After the announcement of the awards we will seek ways to share the good news stories.

What have we accomplished to date?

Awards were offered in 2009 and 2010 to Sue Reed from Buckinghamshire and Jane Carter-Dunn from Gloucestershire. The awards were originally set up to honour the memory of Tony Burgess who did so much to promote e-learning through his work at the Learning and Skills Council.

What have we learnt from this work?

We have been amazed to see how much inspirational work is going on out in the field.

What is (or will be) the impact of this work?

By showcasing the inspirational work of E-Guides others will be encouraged to share and sharpen their own skills.
