Funding for work with minority ethnic women Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 11:55
A Woman's Place - Phase 2 will run 10 pilots - one pilot in each of the government office regions and two in London - to engage women in a range of learning activities. To take part as a pilot, an Expression of Interest form - [Word] must be completed and returned by 26 June 2009.
Chris Taylor, NIACE Programme Director said:
"This is a fabulous opportunity for practitioners and providers to get practical support in reaching women as learners and implementing the new English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) policy - A New Approach. There will be professional support, a toolkit and a planning tool which will be really useful to ESOL planners and providers."
A Woman's Place - Phase 2 will build on the successful programme run last year - which brought 160 women living in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Islington together to identify their learning needs and help them access all types of learning - and supports the government's ESOL and community cohesion policy. It will run until December 2010 and is based on research with women published in the report - Dare to Dream.
The project will provide:
- 16 training events for ESOL teachers, outreach workers and practitioners across the country
- 9 workshops for local authorities, local LSCs and their partners, one in each Government Office region
- 10 provider partners as pilots engaging women in a range of taster learning activities leading to ESOL and family learning
The project is being funded by the European Integration Fund (EIF) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (formerly DIUS).
