Project Title: Seasonal Employment Training
Organisation: East Riding College
Project No: 6/N/00614

Aim of Project:

bulletTo deliver relevant and accessible learning opportunities to people wishing to access, or who are already involved in, seasonal employment.
bulletTo engage learners in an increased awareness of their local history, heritage and environment and use this to develop employability skills.

Themes/subjects covered:

bulletArts
bulletBasic Skills
bulletHeritage
bulletCapacity Building

Target group(s):

bulletYoung people (16-25)
bulletOlder people (50+)
bulletPeople with learning difficulties
bulletUnemployed/unwaged

Activities and processes the project has undertaken:

The project had a number of 'strands':

bulletIt provided vocational training to assist the underemployed and unemployed to improve their employability skills particularly in seasonal employment.
bulletIt provided 'heritage' based vehicles for developing IT skills, basic skills and encouraged community involvement for both learners with learning difficulties and needs and older learners returning to study.

Progress/achievements/interesting developments which have taken place:

bulletIt has proved somewhat difficult to keep track of the learners who accessed the vocational training although it is clear that many did move into employment (seasonal).
bulletLearners from the heritage programme have stayed involved in community activity and are acting as a focal point in other 'follow-up' activities.

Key things that helped make the project successful:

The two heritage programmes were successful in meeting learners' needs for a number of reasons, primarily because the learning which took place was a natural consequence of project activities and also because in each case the 'vehicle' was appropriate for the learners.
