list, but a selection of references which are often recommended by our
Information Service. We hope that this will provide a useful introduction

A study conducted for AARP by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. It shows an
analysis of the United States workforce practices and policies of many of the
most recent and former AARP Best Employers. This analysis is based primarily on
an extensive review of the applications submitted by winning companies in 2002,
2003 and 2004.

This report examines Bureau of Labour Statistics data and reviews many of the
recent studies and surveys on the ageing workforce. Its purpose is to explore
trends in the employment and retirement of older Americans over the past 50
years.

As the post-war baby boomers approach the threshold of old age, their wealth,
health and concern with personal fulfilment present new challenges. Drawing on
focus groups in London and the regions, this report explores the hopes, fears,
perceptions and priorities of this generation, uncovering themes and issues
which need to be addressed by policy makers and service providers.

Older & Bolder
NIACE’s Older & Bolder initiative promotes learning
opportunities for older people. This covers the whole range of learning for
whatever purposes in whatever settings, at times and in ways appropriate to
their stated needs.
The work of Older & Bolder includes undertaking research work
and collecting and disseminating information around issues relevant to older
learners. It involves publishing newsletters, briefing papers and policy papers,
organising seminars and conferences, and offering awards. It also includes
maintaining a specialist reference library and database of good practice,
running email discussion groups for practitioners and older learners themselves,
and providing guidance on curriculum and provision.
