Integrating technology into teaching and learning Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 00:55
A national event to mark the progress of technology in the delivery of adult education is taking place in Nottingham today. The E-Guides National Event 2009: Refresh and Sustain is delivered by NIACE on behalf of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).
The day will celebrate achievements in e-learning and will see the presentation of the first Tony Burgess E-Guide Award - which has been initiated to recognise E-Guides who have made an outstanding impact on teaching and learning through their role in virtual classrooms, digital inclusion, working with offenders and mobile learning.
Sue Reed, ILT Support Officer from Buckinghamshire Adult Education Service is the first recipient of the Tony Burgess E-Guide Award for demonstrating the spirit of the E-Guides Training programme - to lead by example.
Juliet Parker, Sue Reed's nominator and Skills Development Manager, said:
"Sue is very deserving of an E-Guide award because of her excellent knowledge much of which she has gained through her own research, hard work and flexibility. Her support of tutors ensures that their learners receive innovative and worthwhile learning experiences."
Follow the event via a live webcast from 10:00am today.
Markos Tiris, Programme Director for Teaching and Learning at LSIS, said:
"The E-Guides programme continues to go from strength to strength and, with over 2,000 E-Guides, is making a real impact on the quality of the learners' experience. The E-Guides programme is really helping teachers, tutors and trainers develop their own understanding of the benefits of technology for learning. We hope that by taking the programme online too, and through our eCPD Online Learning Space, that even more will be able to benefit."
Angela Sanders, Development Officer at NIACE, said:
"The work that E-Guides have done in supporting staff to use technology in their teaching is tremendous and this event is a chance both to reflect on their achievements and to update on new developments."
