1,000 Community Learning Champions registered Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - 14:06
1,000 individuals are now registered nationally as Community Learning Champions, a big step towards the 1,500 registrations that the national support programme is committed to achieving by March 2011.
Liz Cousins, NIACE Project Manager of the Community Learning Champions Support Programme, said:
"1,000 individuals are now proudly wearing the Community Learning Champions badge and providing learning support for friends, neighbours, work colleagues and people in their communities. And since the 1,000 Community Learning Champions can be expected to engage an average of 30 people each, soon 30,000 others will be helped into learning across the country."
"This also means that many thousands of people will begin to recognise the brand as a sign of impartial advice and support to find suitable learning opportunities."
Since October 2009 the Community Learning Champions' Support Programme has provided training and development opportunities and a website for exchanging ideas, goals and achievements, for 50 funded projects across the country.
The programme enables volunteers to promote learning in their homes, workplaces and communities and is delivered through a partnership between NIACE, unionlearn, the WEA and Martin Yarnit Associates.
