NIACE to shift Journal prices in favour of poorer
countries
NIACE is to reduce the price of its journal Studies in the Education of
Adults for poorer countries. Readers outside Europe, North America,
Australasia and Japan will be able to subscribe at a special discounted rate.
NIACE will also provide online access to the journal as well as the printed
edition, guaranteeing better access for all subscribers.
Alan Tuckett, Director of NIACE says:
“NIACE is committed to ensuring that Studies in the Education of Adults
reflects the cutting edge of debates about adult learning throughout the world
and this decision highlights the international reach of the journal.”
Studies in the Education of Adults is published twice a year by NIACE, in
association with SCUTREA, UACE and ESREA and is edited by Professor Richard
Edwards from the University of Stirling. An international refereed academic
journal, it publishes theoretical, empirical and historical studies from all
sectors of post-initial education and training. It provides a forum for debate
and the development of key concepts.
Arthur L Wilson of Cornell University and co-editor of Adult Education
Quarterly says:
“In this journal the frontiers of disciplined inquiry collide with the
everyday realities of adult learning, work, culture, and politics to produce
sound practical insights and new intellectual achievements.”
The Individual & Senior Learner Awards and the Group Awards
are now closed, but NIACE has extended the deadline for the New Learning Opportunities Awards
to Friday, 24 January 2003.
From January 2003, Adults Learning will be in full colour, with more news and
analysis, more focus on the experience of learners and, crucially, more reader
involvement.
We want the journal to be YOUR journal - the journal of adult learners and
educators. In the coming months, you will see more changes, including:
a Q&A feature, in which readers put the questions to high profile
figures in post-16 education and learning;
new columnists and diarists;
interviews with those making the headlines;
a letters page and regular opinion pieces.
And we want your help!
We want your comments, criticisms, letters, stories and suggestions to shape
the new Adults Learning.
In November 2002, the European Commission launched a large-scale public
consultation on the development of new European programmes in education,
training, and youth. These will replace the existing Socrates, Tempus,
Leonardo da Vinci and Youth programmes when they end in 2006.
The consultation is designed to give the Commission a full picture of the
needs, ambitions and wishes of those involved in education, training and
youth at European level. The results of the consultation will feed into the
legislative proposals for new programmes that the Commission will prepare
next year.
NIACE has written a
draft response
to this document, and we invite you to send us your comments and views.
NIACE's final response will be sent to the Commission before the deadline of
28 February 2003, so please send us your comments as soon as possible.
Please send your comments and views to Sue Waddington,
Development Officer (European Policies) at NIACE, 20 Princess Road West,
Leicester LE1 6TP or email them to:
sue.waddington@niace.org.uk
NIACE holds a register of consultants and our list is used for contracting
consultants for NIACE work where we need to extend staffing resources where
appropriate. We sometimes receive requests from external organisations for
suggested names for consultancies too. We are looking to broaden our consultants
base generally and we are particularly keen to widen our range of consultants
from black and minority ethnic groups. If you would like to receive further
details on how to register please email your contact details to
