Special Educational Needs and Disability Act - Guidance for LEAs
The draft document was tested by several LEA officers and was also circulated to LEA staff who attended a conference run by NIACE on 6 March 2002. Key note speakers at the conference included Liz Maudslay (who produced the Guidance for NIACE) and Neil Crowther from the Disability Rights Commission. Delegates were very positive both about the information they received at the conference and about the potential value of the Guidance. They felt it provided very clear information on exactly what the new legislation meant for LEAs and adult education providers as well as giving clear examples of the steps which LEAs need to take in order to ensure they are able to meet the requirements of DDA Part 4. The final document - Guidance to LEAs and adult education providers on meeting the requirements of DDA Part 4 - has been printed and distributed to LEAs, local LSCs and LEAFEA members. It is also available to download from the NIACE website:
