A World Worth Living In Tuesday, June 14, 2011 - 09:47
The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) World Assembly takes place every four years and is open to members, partners and to all networks that are linked to lifelong learning. NIACE and other participants had the opportunity to reflect on current policy contexts and the challenges that adult education faces.
Alan Tuckett, Chief Executive of NIACE and Treasurer of ICAE, said:
"The eighth World Assembly of ICAE will address the issue of a ‘World Worth Living In'. It will examine responses to the challenges thrown up by climate change and what we can learn from the Nordic popular enlightenment, which has acted as so much of a beacon for adult learning over the world."
"The assembly will also look at the findings of the sixth International Conference on Adult Education, which took place in Belem at the end of 2008, and asking how we can follow it up and put some metal into the spine of governments in recognising the commitments that they made at that conference. We'll also be looking at migration, learner voice and what kind of world we need for our working lives."
