Government announces new skills strategy measures Friday, June 18, 2010 - 16:54
The skills strategy announcements by John Hayes - Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning - and Vince Cable - Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills - include that colleges will be given the flexibility they need to respond to the demands of employers and learners and more people will be encouraged to take part in adult community learning.
Alastair Thomson, Principal Policy & Advocacy Officer at NIACE, said:
"NIACE welcomes the announcement by ministers that colleges will have new flexibility in serving their communities and the Secretary of State's prioritisation of encouraging more people to participate in adult community learning. We look forward to working with ministers to defend public investment in adult learning in the face of pressures on budgets."
