His premature death was a real loss to us all but this award serves to celebrate his memory by recognizing the outstanding achievements of practitioners who share his passion for offering inspiring learning experiences to adults

Alastair Clark, NIACE Senior Programme Director, Digital Learning

"Tony Burgess was a visionary member of LSC staff who really knew how technology could really make a positive difference to adult learners. His premature death was a real loss to us all but this award serves to celebrate his memory by recognizing the outstanding achievements of practitioners who share his passion for offering inspiring learning experience to adults."

Vanessa Wilkes, Tony Burgess' late partner, said:

"Tony stumbled into e-learning, beginning with the development of community learning centres in Dorset. This fired his imagination and he was soon working across a range of agencies to maximise opportunities for learners. The learners were always at the centre of his thoughts and his enthusiasm for pushing the agenda forward was infectious. He was keen to see new, non-traditional ideas and developments supported and would do all he could to help that. He would be amazed and extremely proud that his memory is being honoured in this way."
