Maths Messengers Wednesday, September 22, 2010 - 10:07
Maths Messengers will support people from all walks of life - in workplaces, football clubs, housing associations, libraries, children's centres and youth centres.
Sue Southwood, NIACE Programme Director, said:
"We have received over 100 responses to our offer of free tasters for maths workshops and over the coming months we will be delivering workshops round the country and promoting our joint Maths4Us website. The workshop session can be downloaded from the website and doesn't need experts to be shipped in."
The Maths4Us website contains resources for a range of people to help build a positive attitude to maths learning, including lesson plans, promotional posters and materials for literacy teachers like Putting 2 and two together'.
Sue Southwood continued:
"Having the confidence to use maths in order to make decisions and solve problems is critical for all of us - family members, workers, citizens and lifelong learners. Training Maths Messengers is an important step to tackle the fear of maths that stops adults joining numeracy classes. We want a sea-change in attitudes towards maths and that means working with a whole range of people, not just a few maths experts."
