NIACE annual members’ meeting Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 09:46
This year's annual meeting for NIACE members took place after the details of the long anticipated Spending Review were announced. It provided a forum for members to meet and share their views, experiences and concerns about adult learning, and discuss the best way forward over the next few, crucial years.
NIACE looked at ways to develop its membership base and shared with attendees its Membership Engagement Strategy and the results of its annual Perceptions Survey. NIACE also welcomed a discussion about what it could do better for its membership.
A varied programme was planned with:
• opportunities for structured discussion;
• the launch of a book by Professor Bob Fryer - Promises of Freedom: Citizenship, Belonging and Learning;
• networking opportunities; and
• a display of NIACE resources.
Speakers alongside David Sherlock CBE - President of NIACE - included:
• Lord Tim Boswell, former Conservative education minister and long-standing supporter of adult learning, who is leading NIACE's independent Literacy Inquiry; and
• Marjorie Mayo, author of Taking Part? Active Learning for Active Citizenship and Beyond.
