NIACE seeks providers’ views on impact of loans Thursday, June 13, 2013 - 15:28
In response to the latest figures on applications for Further Education and Skills 24+ Advanced Learning Loans, NIACE is encouraging providers to share their experience of how loans are affecting enrolments.
Fiona Aldridge, Head of Learning for Work at NIACE, said:
"As this is the first year in which loans have been available, it is difficult to tell from the published data alone how their introduction is affecting participation in learning. What’s interesting is that almost half (47%) of applications have been made by learners aged 24-30 and the vast majority (87%) of applicants are female. Almost two-thirds of people applying for loans (62%) are enrolling on access to HE provision, with a further 32% planning to study on diploma programmes.
"While NIACE will continue to monitor the data over the coming months, we would like to encourage providers to share their experience of how loans are affecting enrolments. This will provide a vital insight into the impact on particular types of learners, the subjects they want to study and whether there are any regional differences."
