Places of Worship engage in adult learning Wednesday, December 9, 2009 - 18:07
Cathedrals as Partners in Adult Learning (CPAL) has developed a website which includes a toolkit offering a wide range of resources to support adult learning opportunities in Cathedrals, Greater Churches and other Places of Worship. CPAL enhances informal learning opportunities in these settings through working - and promoting partnerships - with a range of organisations across sectors.
The Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, Dean of Leicester and Chair of the Association of English Cathedrals, said:
"I am delighted to welcome this important initiative. Cathedrals do much good work in adult learning, and the toolkit will help them greatly in developing that work for the benefit of learners everywhere."
The toolkit includes case studies of good practice, advice on funding projects and links to useful organisations. It will be an essential resource not only for Cathedrals and Greater Churches but also for their many partners in adult learning.
Featured in the toolkit, No Shelter from the Storm is a good example of creative partnership securing funding for an innovative informal learning project. The project - concerned with Climate Change - will combine videos projected onto the inside and outside of the buildings, a specially commissioned piece of organ music and learning resources for adults, families and schools. Eight Cathedrals have signed up to host No Shelter from the Storm during 2010; Worcester, Ely, Southwark, St John's RC (Norwich), Exeter, Ripon, Wakefield and Winchester.
