Think About It Dissemination Event

Think About It is a NIACE project which involves seven groups of young adults - aged 19-25 - living in predominantly white working class areas.

Over the past few months these young people have developed learning resources which will help them, and others, to take control and shape their lives in positive ways.

Yesterday - in the Council Chamber of Barking and Dagenham Borough Council - the projects came together to celebrate their successes and to share their experiences of how their learning has meant they can now take a greater part in the lives of their local communities.

The young people - from Kilburn, Islington, Hastings, Bradford, Gosport, Rugby and Barking and Dagenham - taking part in Think About It, are either not in - or are at risk of missing out on - education, employment or training (NEETs).

Funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, each group has worked across one of three themes - handling relationships; identity; and holding beliefs - using creativity, often with new technology, to explore their aspirations, motivations and perceptions.

The next stage of the project will be a CD Rom to provide a how-to guide for anyone who wants to work with young people at risk of exclusion, alongside an online learning platform.
