UNISON and NIACE sign MOU Friday, February 26, 2010 - 17:38
The MOU between UNISON and NIACE sets out the common commitment that both organisations share to support an increase in the numbers of adults engaged in formal and informal learning. At the same time both organisations are working on widening participation by helping to improve access to learning opportunities for adults in communities that are under-represented in current provision.
Dave Prentis, General Secretary signing on behalf of UNISON, said:
"We are proud to have signed this memorandum and especially proud to have done so at the Women's Conference, as it is women who have particularly benefited from UNISON's learning agenda. I have seen first hand the difference learning makes to our members' lives, families and our communities from attending award ceremonies. UNISON shares with NIACE its' commitment to lifelong learning and welcomes this as an opportunity to work together to engage more people in learning and influence and shape the learning agenda."
Rachel Thomson, Senior Programme Director signing on behalf of NIACE, said:
"We are delighted that Unison - Britain and Europe's largest public sector union - has shown its commitment to adult learning by signing this important document. Through its extensive network of union learning reps, introducing learning in the workplace has been a priority for Unison for many years. This agreement is a welcome development along the learning journey we are making together."
