Learner being taught how to build a wooden structure

In response to the Institute for Learning's World Teachers' Day statement, Peter Lavender, Deputy Chief Executive of NIACE, said:

"We support the Institute for Learning's strong statement and its public commitment to teachers on its web site yesterday."

"NIACE recognises that all those working with adult learners - whether teachers, lecturers, trainers, guidance workers, mentors or support workers - have a role to play in helping learners to become all that they are capable of becoming. Without them many of us would not have achieved what we have."

"In addition there are thousands of part-time teachers and trainers who make a difference and their commitment needs to be celebrated too. On the world stage, as UNESCO has pointed out, ‘teachers bring knowledge to life', often against all the odds."
