CITTA: Women Learning for an Active Citizenship

[Case Studies by Region] [Case Studies by Category]

Aims and objectives

The aim of the partnership has been to encourage a transnational exchange of successful basic training models for women living in urban areas that are geographically and socially disadvantaged. An active exchange of information, in the framework of lifelong learning, supported women living in these areas to explore new possibilities and achieve personal development.

Activities and lessons learned

Presentations were made at the partner meetings where each partner identified an example of good practice to share. The Newham College of Further Education identified a project supporting individuals to learn and understand more about how to use the local health service in Newham. In addition the project has helped people to get jobs in the health and care sector.

Achievements

The partners were able to share experiences and come to a greater understanding of the problems that each of them faced within their localities. By working in collaboration, solutions and results were examined and best practices identified and shared.

Materials produced

The project has produced an interim report and developed a website.

Partnership organisations / countries

The partners are as follows:

Italy (Bari) the coordinator – a voluntary sector organisation

Spain (San Andres del Rabanedo, Leon) – a local authority

Germany (Dresden) – a private institution for vocational training and advanced training

UK (Newham) – a college of further education

Learner involvement

Adult learners from Newham College were informed about the project and attended partner meetings

Impact

The impact on all participants has been substantial:

On the organisation
The project brought new groups together and provided a European dimension to adult learners on health and social care courses. It has also led to the development of new partnerships between the partners for future activities.

On staff
The staff were able to learn about other projects and share examples of good practice.

On adult learners
Adult learners were able to participate in partner meetings and experience at first hand the situations within which the partners operate.

On outside organisations
The college’s partners in the project will be informed about the partnership activities.
