Family learning to employment

Andrea's Story

Andrea has two children in Primary School. She left school without any qualifications and was agoraphobic, never leaving the house. When her children started Nursery, she was persuaded by a member of staff to go into school and help in the Nursery, then join a Family Learning Numeracy class.

This was the first of many including ICT, Art and Craft, Family Literacy and Family Numeracy. In addition to gaining Open College Network qualifications, Andrea successfully completed her National Test Numeracy at Entry 3 in 2005 with her Family Numeracy group and is currently working towards her Level 2 in a Skills for Life class. In July 2007, as part of her Family Literacy course, she passed her Literacy at Level 2.

For the past two years, Andrea has worked as a Lunchtime Assistant in the school and has achieved her NVQ Level 2 Support Work in School. When she has gained her Level 2 in Numeracy, she is hoping to progress to a Teaching Assistant’s course.
