Family learning to employment

Karen’s Story:

Karen joined a Christmas crafts course at her child’s school a few years ago. She went on to do a Cheshire FLIGHT (Families Learning Together in Groups and at Home Together) course and more Community Learning courses. She achieved Levels 1 and 2 Literacy & Numeracy qualifications and has just gained a BTEC Public Services qualification with distinction (July 07).

Karen became a Community Learning Champion in her spare time, encouraging others to take up community learning opportunities.

She is hoping to realise her lifetime ambition to join the Fire Service and, as a first step, has applied to be a volunteer with the Cheshire Fire Service.
