Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)

All learners are entitled to access to IAG, which is free and impartial. This is delivered through IAG providers, including providers of basic skills opportunities and services such as Connexions. Providers often organise into IAG Partnerships and Connexions Partnerships, with cross membership between the partnerships.

The main principles of delivering IAG include:

  • Offering options to clients that enable them to raise their aspirations;

  • Ensuring that individual needs are paramount, and are met;

  • Listening to the client, and incorporating their views in outcomes;

  • Working inclusively;

  • Working with other agencies and a wide range of resources, in order to offer a full service;

  • Extending opportunity and equality of opportunity;

  • Maintaining monitoring and evaluation of services.

The LSC has a number of resources on IAG, including advice on Adult IAG. Go to www.lsc.gov.uk
