Staff Qualifications and Staff Development
”Skills for Life” sets out a professional development frame work, which is
based upon three levels of qualification, each one dependant of the level and
type of engagement with the learner and with the subject. The qualifications
related to the National Qualifications Framework Levels 2, 3 and 4. They are:
-
Level 2 is a Certificate for Adult Learner Support, and is for
those who support individual learners. Holders may well be involved in
signposting, supporting learners (under supervision), screening and
identification of learners.
-
Level 3 is the Certificate for Subject Support, and is for those
who support the learning, by contributing to teaching, to screening and
initial assessment by supporting the teaching process.
-
Level 4 is the Certificate for Adult Literacy, Numeracy or ESOL.
Holders of this are subject specialists and need to get this as well as the
PGCE or Cert. Ed. They lead on learning and teaching, support teaching and
support assistants, have responsibility for accreditation, programme design,
lesson preparation and diagnostic assessment.
