What Advantages can the Voluntary and Community Sector offer the field as a whole?

There are a lot of advantages that the Voluntary and Community Sector can offer, and some of these are:

  • Economic delivery to smaller numbers.

  • Delivery at learner friendly times.

  • Certain skills base that may not be available to the college sector and other providers.

  • Ability to engage in Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) activities to support users and colleges after initial basic skills classes.

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities can be open and accessible, and so can better support development of staff skills.

  • Greater degree of learner centricity.

  • Innovative developments, such as a new web based resource in BS, set up by the new Manchester Consortium, on www.manchesterbsc.org.uk .

  • Ability to deliver EBS in the context of other more immediate needs of clients.
