Why should the Voluntary and Community Sector get involved?

There are many reasons for voluntary sector organisations in the sector to get involved, and they include:

  • To offer access to developmental opportunity for excluded groups and individuals

  • To use embedded basic skills as one of the tools that can enhance effective delivery of services to clients.

  • To make it easier for clients and users to access your services

  • To raise awareness of services, the sector and EBS at all levels.

  • To build capacity in the Voluntary and Community Sector.

  • To build and operate effective partnerships between Voluntary and Community Sector, the Statutory Sector, Business and other stakeholders and providers.

  • To act as a route for the dissemination of funding.

  • To enhance the services offered by Learning and Skills Councils, Colleges and other providers, particularly by making them more accessible to vulnerable and other users.

  • To provide signposting to appropriate provision.

  • To build on previous formal /informal funded and unfunded provision.

  • To create added value and potentially added funding to VCS services.

  • To recognise and cater for the needs raised by the clear link between BS and other social needs.

  • To allows clients to address their primary needs and interest simultaneously.

  • To support service users in developing themselves and their skills.

  • To work with VCS staff and volunteers in assessing and progressing their Basic Skills needs.
