You are here: Home > Case Studies > Joseph Case Study: JosephJoseph is 42 years old and has worked in the building trades all his working life. His education was disrupted as a child, as the family frequently moved on and he missed some extended periods of school. In school, he was considered to be bright but disruptive, with little interest in acquiring conventional skills. As a result, he left schooling with no qualifications and few conventional skills. He has not taken up any education or training opportunities since school, but has learnt the skills of labouring on the job and has developed ways of coping with his relative lack of basic skills. Two years ago, he was involved in a serious accident at work, and as a result is registered as disabled and uses a wheelchair for mobility outside the home. He is keen to find work, but has difficulty in seeing what skills he has that will let him find work. His wife and children are supportive of him and they have now had a settled home for the last 6 years. |
