Cover of "FE in the 21st Century"

If you are responsible for Adult Education in your FE College, this booklet will help you make sense of the many changes that are occurring in the sector. The sector is in its fastest ever period of change with the loss of 1.5 million adult education places over the last two years, new initiatives in informal adult learning and the future replacement of LSC by the Skills Funding Agency.

This booklet details for you the hopes and fears of others in the sector as they make sense of these changes and deal with the implications for their organisations. This information is in the form of a summary of proceedings from three conferences, organised by Paul Mackney (NIACE’s Associate Director - FE) between November 2007 and January 2008. These conferences looked at the past, present and future of Further Education for adults in the 21st century. The comments, suggestions and ideas that are outlined in the book will help you to better understand these changes and help you make your own preparations for their impact.
