EDPs: a European dimensionNIACE and partners recently completed a transnational project under the European Union's LEONARDO DA VINCI programme (an action programme to establish a European Community vocational training policy). Its formal title was: "Using Employee Development Schemes as Innovative Workplace-based Social Partnerships in Learning: Development of transnational training materials", the short title was simply "Transnational training materials for use in employee development schemes". The project, which involved partners in the UK France, Greece and Ireland, developed transnational pre-vocational training materials to motivate workers with few qualifications to undertake vocational learning. It aimed to strengthen opportunities for unqualified and less-qualified people by developing their confidence and readiness to learn through a process of self-reflection. It also explored the extent to which the UK model of employee development described on these pages was transferable to other European contexts.
