[ Previous ] [ Up ] [ Next ]The Guinness TrustLearning the Ropes We are a group of 3 females our age band ranges from 2 teenagers to 4x40+ who have had either very little or no knowledge at all of computers. We were approached by Mr. P Tudor and Mrs. L Hargreaves to see if we interested in learning computer skills and hopefully in the near future be able to help others in the community. On the day Pat Tudor asked if we were interested in a computer course and we all thought he was mad. Several of us gave it a go and we found that we were not as thick as we thought. We are now enjoying this 20 week course! So far the knowledge that is in the computer is so overwhelming, the understanding of this knowledge is wonderful. Our first task was how to master the correct setting up of the equipment. Than we learnt how to use PAINT BOX (coloured text and paint icons) After much spilling of paint we progressed into the dizzy heights of:- Word and Publisher (we have made our own Christmas Cards) How to use the printer came next (oh boy weve never seen sheets of A4 move so quick!) Next we learnt to be a cut above all the rest, yeas youve guessed it, how to crop pictures. We scanned a small photo then selected a piece to crop. This procedure allowed us to become very skilled in using both scanner and printer. Our next task is to have a go surfing the Internet and even do some Emailing. At the end of each session we could not believe how quickly time had passed, but on occasions we were delighted to be able to take the computer home to do our homework (which is so much better than doing lines ha ha.) Learning how to use a computer, getting onto the internet and using the Email has been like a breath of fresh air realising the whole world is at our fingertips. May we take this opportunity to thank DfES for the loan of the laptops and other equipment for if it were not for them we would still be ignorant of the computer. THANKS also goes to Linda and Pat for giving us their valuable time and bringing us together to be able to work as a group and we hope the expertise in using computers can be passed on through courses, as individuals we are determined to set up. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU |
