Delivered by experienced family learning professionals, NIACE offers a range of one day training options for family learning practitioners.
These training events are aimed at family learning tutors, managers, children's centre staff, teachers, front line staff, voluntary organisations and anyone interested in developing or working in family learning.
The training range includes the following courses:
(1) Principles and practice of Family Learning (level 2)
This course is for partner organisations and front line staff who have contact with families most in need. It will raise awareness of family learning and its underpinning principles, including understanding the skills for life needs of families, and signposting to provision.
Aims:
- To understand the principles and practice of family learning
Objectives
By the end of the day participants will:
- Be clear about the policy and context for Family Learning
- Have identified opportunities for partnership working
- Have developed ideas for recruitment of families most in need
- Have developed ideas for curriculum development of family learning programmes
(2) Principles and practice of Family Learning Level 3
This course is for those who are new to family learning including partner organisations, support staff and tutors and teachers. The course content will be similar to level 2, but at a higher level as it is aimed at those who have greater involvement in family learning.
(3) Planning and delivering intergenerational Family Learning (level 4)
This course is for family learning and skills for life tutors and managers working with families
Aims:
- To understand how to plan and deliver intergenerational family learning sessions.
Objectives:
By the end of the day participants will:
- Have identified the key factors in planning intergenerational family learning;
- Have identified key partners to work with in planning and delivery;
- Have developed ideas for curriculum development for intergenerational family learning;
- Have planned a session for adults and children.
(4) Evidencing Impact - establishing effective evaluation of Family Learning
This course explores effective models for evaluating programmes and establishing systems for evidencing impact to provide family learning providers with the tools for strategic positioning. It is aimed at tutors and managers working in family learning.
By the end of the day participants will:
- Have greater understanding of the principles of evaluation and evidencing impact;
- Have identified the key current agendas and policies;
- Be able to set up a robust system for gathering data;
- Have identified how data can be used to demonstrate impact of family learning.
(5) Partnership and multi-agency working- meeting the new agendas
This course is aimed at teaching staff and managers working in partnership with other organisations to plan and deliver programmes for families most in need.
By the end of the day participants will:
- Have greater understanding of the key current agendas and policies;
- Have identified key partners for working with families most in need;
- Have identified principles for partnership and multi-agency working;
- Have explored a range of programmes aimed at families most in need.
(6) Family learning for bilingual families (level 3 and 4)
This course is aimed at organisers and tutors working with bilingual families
By the end of the day participants will:
- Have greater understanding of the needs of bilingual families;
- Have greater understanding of assessment and course planning;
- Have explored a range of family learning programmes;
- Have developed ideas for curriculum development for bilingual family learning.
