Core-funded by the European Social Fund and the Department for Education and Skills

Sign up now logo

Sign Up Now in January is organised by NIACE to highlight the benefits of signing up to a new course of learning. Through this media-led campaign we’ll be actively encouraging existing learners to help promote the benefits of learning to their peers, friends and family.

If you liked September’s Sign Up Now postcards and posters you’ll be pleased to know we have more available for January’s campaign.

Fill out the online order form to order posters, postcards and other giveaway items.
If you don't want to complete your order online, you can print an order form here (PDF) and fax it to us on 0116 223 0050.

Sign up now online calendar

If you would like to publicise your Sign Up Now enrolment activities and open days for free, use the free online calendar at www.signupnow.org.uk/calendar

This will be publicised to the press and has proven to be a popular resource for adults to search for enrolment events near to them. It’s also a key tool for learndirect advisers who can use the details on the calendar to let callers know about events which are happening locally to them.

Talking Employers’ Language

As part of Sign Up Now in September, and with ESF-support, NIACE produced materials to help employers and their Polish employees take on the problems caused by poor English language skills.

A leaflet for employers highlighted the benefits to employers of providing ESOL on site. A series of postcards promoted learndirect’s Polish language line, which offers Polish-speaking adults with advice and guidance on learning English in the workplace.

We now hope to produce the materials in learndirect’s other lines (Sylheti, Bengali etc.) to encourage employers to provide ESOL in the workplace for speakers of these languages.

For updates please visit this page later in the year.

Reaching adult learners

NIACE is exploring the possibility of providing winners and nominees with an online learners’ forum to exchange views and experiences of learning.

The forum will be ‘launched’ during January’s Sign Up Now campaign, with Adult Learners’ Week award winners from the pilot region of the West Midlands invited to take part in a session on using the forum. We hope to roll the forum out on a national basis during Adult Learners’ Week 2007. For more details please contact Jo Knight at jo.knight@niace.org.uk

BBC RaW: Families Phase

BBC RaW targets adults with intermediate literacy skills, offering them fun and accessible opportunities to engage with reading and writing.

From December 2006 RaW will focus on parents, with activity on TV and radio, online, and around the UK. The central resource will be a free RaW storytelling pack, full of fun activities and practical tools; the pack will be promoted on BBC television in late December and January.

Providers can get a free copy of the pack and access other free resources by signing up as a RaW centre. Find out more at www.bbc.co.uk/raw/campaign  or contact the RaW team: 020 8752 6777 or raw@bbc.co.uk
