Don’t forget the online calendar

Each year there are more and more visitors to the Adult Learners' Week website, so you can be sure that people will be visiting the online calendar to see what’s happening this September.

The free calendar is a great vehicle for promoting Sign Up Now enrolment events, and since learndirect call handlers will have access to the site, it’s considering using the site to highlight any extra activities you’re running. You can add or search for details of events at www.signupnow.org.uk/calendar

Talking employers’ language
Helping Polish-speaking adults improve their English skills for the workplace

Many businesses employ people whose first language is Polish. Polish workers are productive and enjoy working and living in the UK, but are often hampered by their lack of English skills. Learning English will help employees deal better with aspects of working life that can be baffling if they do not have a good grasp of the language.

Polish LeafletWith ESF support NIACE, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, is producing a leaflet to highlight the benefits to employers of providing ESOL on site, or alternatively to encouraging their employees to ring learndirect's Polish helpline for advice and guidance.

Alongside the leaflet NIACE will be producing a series of postcards specifically to promote the Polish language line to employees.

We regret to announce that we are now out of stock of the Polish leaflets and postcards.  There may have been a few people who ordered these materials using the online order form before we had time to update the website.  If so, then we sincerely apologise to those people for the orders that we are unable to fulfil.  If we are able to organise a reprint of these materials we'll let you know as soon as we can on this webpage.

Inclusive Learning – 10 Years On
19 September 2006, London Resource Centre

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the publication of the Further Education Funding Council’s influential Inclusive Learning report of the Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities
Committee chaired by the late Professor John Tomlinson.

This conference – which is being delivered with ESF support as part of Sign Up Now, and include workshops delivered by ESF-funded projects – will give staff, managers and learners in post-16 education an opportunity to re-visit the key messages of the Inclusive Learning report, ten years on. Mindful of the new Disability Equality duties on the public sector we will look at developments in adult learning for disabled learners including curriculum design, a chance to reflect on practice, consider quality, celebrate and look to the future.

For more details please contact gurjit.kaur@niace.org.uk or visit the website at www.niace.org.uk/conferences
